In today’s World, we have the ability to do almost anything on mobile devices. It is easier to do, more convenient and exciting in a way. Rather than people having to look up phone numbers and call to make reservations at restaurants or ask to see their menu, everything can now be done with the tap of a few buttons. This mobile restaurant app was made to show accessible interface design, making it easy for users to flow through the app to view the general information about the restaurants, the menu, the map and reservation inquiries.

This project involved an ample amount of design work and html/css. Alongside that, there was a lot of JavaScript including jQuery used throughout. The main point of creating this app was to give a user an exciting and simplistic way to view their favourite restaurants with one overall app. A way to view menus and locations and even book a reservation. Every element in this app was created to be fresh and inviting, while being very accessible.

The objective of this project was to create an easily accessible mobile app for a series of restaurant chains apart of the overall Family of Eateries brand. The main challenge of this project was getting the functionality just right so that the UI of the app is at its best. Once one of the restaurants was complete, it was only a matter of changing the design to relate to the specific chain restaurants.

Part of the challenge was the reservation page. Getting everything to work right for that page was difficult, but after some feedback and research, it turned out to be a modern and simple page. Majority of this project was creating the brands and design for the app itself. A lot of thought went into the colours and graphics for each restaurant to relate to the storyline and theme of them. This proved difficult sometimes when trying to decide on certain decisions.

The project started out with planning and sketching to get all of the ideas sorted out and working together. Research was very helpful during this stage to assist with the logos of each restaurant. Knowing what each name really meant helped with designing some abstract graphics that have an underlying meaning to them. The overall layout design was created in Adobe XD so that when the app was fully designed, the movements and transitions could also be planned and tested before the coding phase. Adobe XD saved me a lot of time in the long run by helping with the planning. After a longer process of the designing and planning, the coding started. A short loading screen was put into place with the main logo appearing which then went into the restaurant choice page.

This page allows the user to go into the restaurant of their choosing at any time. Each restaurant started with an “about” page displaying the information about that restaurants story, location, hours, and more. The next page displays the featured menu items with prices and descriptions. This page is visually appealing to make the menu items look even better than they do already. After that page, the reservation page is displaying how to make a reservation in app with functionalities that allow the user to choose time, date, and number of people. The last page shows a map with the location of the restaurant. Off to the side of the app, there is a hamburger menu that gives additional information and allows you to return to the main selection page. The stages of this project allow for a seamless app outcome.

The task for this project was to create an easily accessible design and working app to view several different restaurants. All of the stages came together in the end to create a successful app. The skills from many different aspects of design and media were showcased through this interactive app. The final app can be viewed here to get a better understanding of the process.
