Games are fun for everyone. There are so many games that people can enjoy with friends and family or by themselves. Matching games can test your memory skills and keep your memory skills up to par in the future. This spring break matching game was made to be both fun and helpful. Who doesn’t want to go on spring break?

This project was a challenging, but very fun project to complete. The matching game implemented interesting icons and illustration designs which makes the game more exciting for the user. A good amount of svg animations were done for this project to stand out. The main point of this project is to show that designing doesn’t always have to be informative or static. These designs can be used to create fun games and interactive experiences like this matching game.

The main objective of this project was to create a fun matching game with the theme of our choice. There needed to be a splash page at the beginning, and then two separate buttons to go into the main game page. Making the splash page from scratch was a difficult challenge, but a fun one. The illustration needed to be fully vectorized and needed to show exactly what theme we chose right off the bat. Small animations were required to make the design stand out more and to allow for a better experience. Good use of colour and typography was a necessity as well. All of these requirements made for a difficult task, however, they helped with creating a great outcome.

The matching game started with coming up with a theme. The choice for a theme was very difficult because it could be anything. So many options can be overwhelming sometimes. The choice of spring break was ultimately the best choice in my mind because it related to me and it relates to so many others as being a great time. Spring break is fun and relaxing, just like this matching game. Ideas for the matching cards were thought out by experiences I have had in the past.

Everyone likes to enjoy a cold, refreshing tropical drink on vacation, mocktails and cocktails was the theme picked for the first set of cards. The second set of cards displayed places of interest on vacations. Each set of cards were fully designed by scratch on Adobe illustrator, along with the other elements including the splash page and the background. The splash page theme was beach related as it is more common to be at a beach on spring break and it is a relaxing image to have in your head. After all of the design work, the functionality of the game was made in JavaScript. Gsap animations were made for the splash page to become more interesting. The final game was completed and showcased many different skills.

My task for this project was to come up with a great idea to turn into a fun game for people to play and enjoy. The designs and illustrations can be appreciated throughout the game while trying to match up the different elements of spring break. The completed version should be played on a desktop/laptop or tablet and is not meant for a mobile device at this time.
